Veterans Day is a day to honor and remember the sacrifices veterans have made for this country; this year, a group of high school students will host a free dinner for local veterans to show their appreciation.

Several students in the Carter County Youth Leadership program are hosting a bean supper for veterans and their spouses on Sunday, Nov. 10, from 4-6 p.m. at the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Center at 300 W. Mill St.

Group leader Zeb Eggers said the group wanted to do something to show thanks to the veterans.

“We wanted to do something for the veterans,” Eggers said. “We want to give back and show our gratitude for the veterans. We were brainstorming ideas at the beginning of Youth Leadership and Sullivan had the idea of doing it for the veterans, and I thought of doing a bean supper, like T.A. Dugger (Junior High) does. We put two and two together.”
