Workman selected as city’s new police major

A 16-year veteran of the Elizabethton Police Department has been promoted to the position of major to replace Rusty Verran, who left the department in July.

Police Chief Matt Bailey said Capt. Greg Workman will assume the major position Oct. 22.

“Capt. Workman has served honorably during his time with the EPD,” Bailey said. “He has been instrumental in the successful growth and continual development of this department.”

Workman graduated from Daniel Boone High School in 1988. In a recent interview, Workman said he spent 10 years working at a Johnson City Hardee’s restaurant, but he always wanted to go into law enforcement.
