On Dec. 30, Maj. Greg Workman will fill the shoes of his longtime colleague and friend, Elizabethton Police Chief Matt Bailey.
“It’s an honor to be thought of that highly, to be Elizabethton’s next police chief,” Workman said Friday in his office at the city police station. “I want to continue to do what’s best for the community and continue moving forward on the progress that was made by my predecessors.”
City Manager Fred Edens, who named Workman to the position, said he was the obvious choice to be the city’s top police official.
“Maj. Workman is a longtime employee of the police department and he’s a highly respected, intelligent and professional officer,” the city manager said. “All the other officers respect him and I got the impression from them that he he will be well-received as the new chief.”
