At approximately 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, Katlyn G. Cannon was injured after leaping from a Chevrolet pickup truck driven by her boyfriend, Harley Thomas.

Thomas would later tell authorities that he was driving around 30 mph when Cannon jumped.

Cannon was attended to by members of the Elizabethton Police Department until the arrival of the Carter County Emergency and Rescue Squad, who transported her to the Johnson City Medical Center to be treated for head trauma. In a press release, the EPD would later report that Cannon’s injuries were “non-life threatening.”

EPD officers interviewed both Thomas and Cannon to determine what led her to jump from the vehicle. According to Sgt. Matt Croy, however, who was on the scene, the two stories didn’t quite agree.
