Carl Widner of Elizabethton has sped to an impressive start at Bristol Dragway this spring.
Widner has recorded two DER Bracket Racing Series victories and a runner-up finish.
Widner opened by losing the Trading Post Sportsman final to Bristol’s John Isom.
However, he bounced back the second weekend to defeat Kingsport’s Van Greer for the Virginia Laser Pro title at Thunder Valley.
In the third week, Widner took Trading Post Sportsman over John Nelson. Widner stands tied for first in the Sportsman standings with Cody Spears, with a 22-point lead.
Elizabethton’s Josh Reece prevailed in week one in Motorcycle over Bluff City points leader Jerry Turner, who has been on a tear. Also in the opening event, Butler’s Mark Crowe took Corporal Clean Trophy over Tanya Street of Cedar Bluff.
The second stop saw Turner defeat Elizabethton’s Chris Johnson in Motorcycle.
