Hampton trailed North Greene 5-3 in the top of the fourth inning on Tuesday before inclement weather forced the postponement of the Watauga Valley Conference baseball game.

The visiting Huskies’ Troy Hall had singled and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. There was one out after Hampton’s Stone Hutchinson fanned a batter for the first out when lightning initially struck.

The contest will be picked up next Tuesday in Baileyton, when a second meeting between the two teams will also be played as scheduled.

Hutchinson had been touched for seven hits and yielded four earned runs. He struck out one, walked one and hit a batter.

North Greene’s Tyler Bailey, who hurled a perfect game last month, scattered five hits with one earned run. He fanned three and walked two.

The Huskies (8-2) grabbed a 2-0 advantage in the first inning. Zak Britton belted a run scoring double and Dalton Wright tagged a sacrifice fly.

Hampton was retired 1-2-3 in the bottom half, with Bailey registering two strikeouts.

In the second, Hall delivered a run-scoring double to make it 3-0. The side was retired when Hampton left fielder Anthony Oliver gloved a shot and gunned down a runner at home.

The Bulldogs (1-5) knotted the affair that inning. Taylor Edwards and Tristian Robinson led off with a pair of singles.

Hutchinson rapped a run-scoring single. A runner crossed on an error and Mark Ailport’s run-scoring single tied it up.

The third saw North Greene surge ahead 5-3. Zac Potter and Ethan Dotson each drove in scores.

Hampton’s Jeffrey Hughis singled that inning, and reached second on a passed ball, before being stranded,

Hall and Zak Britton each batted 2 for 2. Bailey, Dotson and Britton each stole bases.

North Greene Brett Bolton doubled.
