WCCVFD prepares for annual fundraising drive

By

To the editor:

The West Carter County Volunteer Fire Department begins its 43rd year of service in October. We will mail out our fall fund-raising letter around Oct. 1. Our annual meeting to elect directors and officers will convene Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. at the fire hall.

WCCVFD offers skilled service to the residents of our area with state-certified firefighters and professional equipment. Our dedicated firefighters train many hours per month and have saved tens of thousands of dollars in property and several lives during our 43 years. Twenty firefighters are certified and eight crewmembers are certified EMTs

The WCCVFD maintains an ISO rating of 7 which saves homeowners many dollars on their insurance premiums. Without this rating, insurance costs would rise significantly. Our operational costs are rising. The cost now to train and outfit a firefighter with a pager, protective gear and an air pack is over $6,500. We urge every household and business in our area to contribute, no matter how little. Every penny helps.

WCCFVD raises needed money only by mail appeal. We not make phone or door-to-door solicitations. The service is free of charge. No one in the WCCVFD is paid. Every penny given pays for utilities, maintenance and equipment.

We ask each household and business to respond to our fundraising letter with a contribution no matter how small. We depend on these gifts to contine this free service. We thank each contributor in advance for their generous support.

-Bill Gwaltney, President, West Carter County Volunteer Fire Department
