Update: Southside Road reopens after water line damage

10:31 am | December 16, 2013

Elizabethton Street and Sanitation Director Danny Hilbert says Southside Road is open to through traffic again.

The road was closed from Parkway Boulevard to Sneed Hill Road earlier due to water line damage caused by the electric utility, according to Elizabethton Electric Department General Manager Rob Toney.

The basement of a home near the broken water line sustained some damage.

Toney said the water line break and basement damage happened during the replacement of light poles along the road.

The electric utility has assumed responsibility for the basement and water line damage, Toney said.

Earlier report:

Southside Road has been closed from Sneed Hill Road to Parkway Boulevard because a water line is broken in that area.

The road closure could last until 5 or 6 p.m., according to emergency radio communications.

Public works employees are on scene to correct the issue.

Only emergency vehicles will be allowed to enter the area.
