Members of the WRRWA met Steve Burwick in his home to award him the plaque. From left to right, Executive Director Brian Trantham, Secretary and Treasurer “Kayo” Gentry, Burwick, and Chairman Johnny Mills.

“For your years of professionalism covering news for Watauga River Regional Water Authority, we would like to thank you for your contributions to our company and the community,” said WRRWA Chairman Johnny Mills upon the presentation of the award.

An emotional Burwick accepted his reward with a handshake, then embraced Mills as an old friend.

“This means the world to me,” Burwick said, as tears welled in his eyes.

Burwick’s time at the county desk of the STAR coincided with the foundation of the water authority. During that time, he developed close working relationships with many key members of the authority.
