Warriors outscored by talented Richlands team

BRISTOL, Va. — It usually spells “win” when a team shoots 52 percent from the field and scores 72 points. But that wasn’t the case for Happy Valley against a very young and talented Richlands squad on Thursday afternoon in the Virginia High Christmas Tournament.

The Wildcats (3-1) shot 27-of-46 (59 percent) from the field and the same percentage (10-of-17) from behind the three-point arc in defeating the Warriors 77-72 in the opening round. And many of the shots they made were well defended.

“We knew they were good shooters because we saw them this summer,” said Chuck Babb, Happy Valley’s head coach. “I thought we executed well — about as good as we have all year. We played solid but the difference in the game was offensive rebounds. I thought we gave them way too many shots at the basket after we had forced them into a miss.”
