A combined pitching effort and early runs were too much for Sullivan North to combat.
Happy Valley built a 6-1 lead and withstood a fifth-inning charge from the Raiders in a 7-4 conference win at Cannon-Gouge Park.
Hunter Townsend kept North at bay through four innings but ran into some trouble with two outs in the fifth, dealing three runs to bring aboard teammate Conner Campbell. Campbell and the Warrior defense closed it out for the save.
“Conner did a great job and Hunter battled his butt off,” said Happy Valley coach Caleb Moore, whose team improves to 15-8 overall. “He didn’t have his best stuff, but he kept on. I thought in the third inning he maybe had one more, but he kept on battling and battling. I was very impressed with the way he kept coming at them.”
