Warranties expired: Jail equipment uncovered

Holiday shoppers are accustomed to being asked if they want an extended warranty for their gifts.

Some say yes, others say no.

In the case of the new jail in Carter County, county officials would just like to be asked the question.

On Dec. 1, all warranties and service contracts for the daily operations machines in the Carter County Detention Center expired.

As a result, county officials are looking for new maintenance contracts to deal with the inevitable repairs the machines will need.

“We’ve already looked at some bids for maintenance contracts,” said County Commissioner L.C. Tester. “I’m hoping we can have something by the January [County Commission] meeting.”
