Ward: Signing helps send ‘big red flag’ to state leaders

Since Sept. 9, a petition has circulated among Tennessee’s school superintendents asking for stronger dialogue between them and state Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman.

Director of Carter County Schools Kevin Ward told his board that he had, as of Wednesday, added his voice to that request.

On Thursday afternoon, at a meeting of the Carter County Board of Education, Ward informed all in attendance that he signed the petition in the hope of drawing the attention of state officials.

“I would like to go on record and let this board know that I signed the petition,” Ward said.

The petition was drafted on Sept. 9 by Director of Tullahoma City Schools Dan Lawson, and asserts that
Huffman has been non-responsive to growing concerns over the extent of the state’s education reform.
