Elizabethton had a stable of studs on its 2013 baseball team and another one of those thoroughbreds will get a shot at playing in the college ranks.
Anthony Ward was a key straw that stirred the drink in leading ‘Betsy to their first state tournament appearance since 1958.
The power-hitting first baseman was near the top in almost all the team’s statistics.
Ward batted .350 with three homers, 38 RBI’s and 37 runs scored. The three-year starter was selected to the All-Watauga Conference team and earned a spot on the first team All-Carter/Johnson County squad.
