The United Way of Elizabethton/Carter County has marked the annual Week of Caring by arranging for a troupe of volunteers to help many of the organizations that the local United Way supports or partners with on a regular basis.

Several different activities were planned for local agencies that benefit from the United Way at the end of May and first of June to be a part of the Week of Caring.

Carter County Parish Youth from Watauga Point United Methodist, St. Paul United Methodist and Hunter United Methodist churches painted fences for Adult Day Services, and Carter County Bank employees hosted a beach party for Adult Day Services clients.

A Carter County trusty work crew painted new lines on the parking lot at Assistance Resource Ministry. A crew of Eastman employees largely from Carter County spent the day completing multiple projects at the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center.

Also, as a part of Week of Caring, Contact Ministries received donations of copy paper from Pine Ridge Rehab Center and CDs and CD cases from Greg Bowers, based on requests from the agency.

“I would say this Week of Caring has been a success,” said United Way Director Debbie Guy. “Everything went well and we had great participation from the community. Not only did we have volunteers to do the work, most of the materials were donated as well.”
