Veterans Walk of Honor bricks available9:07 am | December 16, 2013
Bricks honoring Carter County veterans are still available on the Veterans Walk of Honor in downtown Elizabethton.
Sam Shipley, chairman of the Elizabethton/Carter County Veterans War Memorial Committee, said there are 237 black granite bricks remaining to be sold for the final phase of the Walk of Honor.
The blank bricks are already installed in the memorial and will be engraved on site. Of the bricks, 374 of the 5,850 bricks are blanks. Of the blank bricks, 137 have been sold leaving 237 still available.
“This would be a wonderful Christmas present for any Carter County veteran,” Shipley said.
The bricks are $100 and feature the veteran’s name and branch of service. The memorial is open to any honorably-discharged veteran, living or deceased, or active-duty or reserve military members who have lived in Carter County at any time in their lives.
“We are still actively working,” Shipley said. “The Walk of Honor is not completed. It will be completed when every brick is purchased.”
