After volunteering at Harold McCormick Elementary for nearly 12 years, Susan Peters was asked to leave the school grounds by Principal Brian Culbert.

On Monday, she was told not to return. Peters said she was told to stay away for the rest of the school year because some of her actions had offended some teachers at the school. On Monday, Harold McCormick Principal Brian Culbert said the most recent occurrence involved Peters discussing issues involving West Side Elementary, and that Peters was talking negatively about Director of Schools Ed Alexander, which bothered some of the teachers she was talking with.

“It bothered some of the teachers that were privy to her statements,” Culbert said. “The teachers asked her not to talk about that kind of thing. Teachers don’t want to be political. For most of them, it makes them uncomfortable and they don’t want those problems brought into the classroom.” Peters said she had been told by numerous individuals over the weekend that she would be receiving a letter asking her not to return to the school. She said when she arrived at the school she asked to talk to Culbert about the issue, and he gave her the letter.
