Family ties and a family type atmosphere were the key reasons that Scotty Verran accepted the head football coaching job at North Greene High School on Sunday.
The former Happy Valley standout player and coach informed NGHS principal David McClain and athletic director James Buchanan of his decision late that afternoon.
The new field boss was at the school on Tuesday morning meeting with his players. He replaces Josh Edens, who was at the helm for two seasons before resigning just recently. He’ll be teaching Driver’s Education and probably one other class. He said the latter is yet to be determined.
“This is a great opportunity to work with a good bunch of people,” said Verran. “It’s a family type environment with a great atmosphere. The people get along together and they work well together. I’m looking forward to working with Mr. McClain, Coach Buchanan and all the other staff. I’m excited about the things that I’ve already seen down here.”
