Hampton was determined to play with heart against arch rival Cloudland, and a “Valentine” made sure they did so.
Stanley Valentine helped deliver the arrow that shot down the Highlanders 59-50 before a capacity crowd inside of VanHuss-White Gymnasium. His double-double — 14 points and 10 rebounds — was sweeter than a big old box of Whitman’s chocolates on this night.
“These guys have been telling me for a month that the gym would be packed,” said Valentine. “I didn’t believe them, but I saw what they were talking about. The place was full. It’s the second best environment that I’ve ever played in. I loved it.”
