Update: Milligan community standoff results in vandalism charge

Update – The Elizabethton Police Department has identified and placed a charge on the man involved in a 2 1/2 hour standoff at West Haven Apartments in Milligan.

Jonathan Ryan Taylor, 21, 1484 Milligan Highway, Apt. 21, was charged with vandalism under domestic violence, according to an EPD press release.

Officers dressed in SWAT gear responded to the apartment complex at approximately 8 a.m. after receiving a call that a man was suicidal and had barricaded himself inside with a gun.

Taylor was unarmed when police took him into custody and was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation.

Elizabethton Police Department officers are transporting the subject in the Milligan standoff to a local hospital for evaluation.

EPD Chief Greg Workman said the man, who appeared to be in his 20s, was successfully apprehended after a 2 1/2 hour standoff at the West Haven Apartments in Milligan.

Officers in SWAT gear responded to the apartment after receiving a call around 9 a.m. that the man was suicidal and had barricaded himself in an apartment with an assault rifle. Officers were able to get the man to leave the apartment. He was unarmed when he left the building.
