Unicoi one point better than Hampton, 42-41

Unicoi County made like Dick Van Patten and said “Eight is Enough.”

After a pair of late touchdowns put Hampton on the brink of a dramatic victory, Luke Fronckoski scored on a 75-yard middle screen, Hunter Burnett booted the extra point and the Blue Devils prevailed 42-41 in Friday night’s season-opening action at J.C. Campbell Stadium.

“We all played our hearts out,” said quarterback Coby Jones, who matched the Bulldogs’ single-game record for passing touchdowns with four. ”We made three mistakes each and all those added up, and we can’t have that. All we can do is get better at practice Monday.”

Beating Hampton for the first time since 2004, the Blue Devils stopped an eight-game losing streak in the series.
