JOHNSON CITY — University High backed up its top seed, and Unaka lives to play another day.
The Lady Junior Bucs disposed of their arch rival 14-6 on Wednesday night in the District 1-A softball tournament winners’ bracket final at Basler Field. UH (22-13) earns an automatic bid to next week’s Region 1-A semifinals.
Unaka (9-10) meanwhile hits the diamond again this evening at 7 in the losers’ bracket final, against the earlier winner of North Greene (15-15) and Cloudland (3-15).
“We fought,” Unaka coach Kayla Clawson said. “Now we’ve got to go back and try to get back in the championship game tomorrow. We’ve got to face either North Greene or Cloudland, and we’ve got to fight, fight, fight.”
