The Bluefield Blue Jays are obviously leading the Appalachian League’s East Division for a reason.
They unloaded an ample share of firepower on Friday night at Joe O’Brien Field, disposing of the Elizabethton Twins 11-3.
“These guys have got a good hitting club,” Elizabethton manager Ray Smith said. “You’ve got to pitch them tough, you’ve got to attack and you’ve got to hit spots. Or you’re going to have to pay the price, and that’s just what happened.”
Bluefield holds a game and a half lead atop the East. The defending Appy League champion Twins are seven and a half out in the West.
The Jays rapped 12 hits. Although Elizabethton was just behind with 11, this wasn’t the evening on the mound for the Twins’ pitchers.
