Turnovers shape Lady Bulldogs’ conquest of UH

Like a professional pickpocket, the Hampton Lady Bulldogs stole the ball, and the game, from University High 65-44 on Friday night at Van Huss-White Gym in a Watauga Valley Conference contest.

Forcing 18 turnovers — with 10 coming on steals — the Lady ’Dogs defensively controlled the Lady Junior Buccaneers offense and allowed just 16 points in the first half as UH struggled in its halfcourt offense.

“Our intensity wasn’t as good as I had hoped in the first half,” said Lady Bulldogs coach Buddy Hazelwood. “We picked up our intensity in the third quarter tonight. We got a lot of dribble penetration in the third quarter and shot a lot of layups which got us going. I was a little disappointed in our overall defensive effort.”
