Trent trying to turn tide6:00 am | June 19, 2013
Joey Trent’s season at Kingsport Speedway can be wrapped up quite simply — a string of misfortune.
A prime example for the Chevrolet driver is earlier this year when his son Chad, deployed in Afghanistan, returned home to see his father race. The elder Trent dropped a valve before qualifying, and missing the green flag that evening.
“So far, we’ve been plagued with motor trouble upon motor trouble,” Trent, Elizabethton City Schools Director of Facilities and Technology Services, said on Tuesday night. “We’ve been caught up in accidents that weren’t our fault. Outside of that, we’ve had broken parts in the drive train.
“We’ve had only one top-10 finish. It’s almost like a sophomore slump.”
Trent was having a successful run last year, before blowing an engine late in the campaign and limping home on a borrowed motor.
