Carter County Board of Education members put the brakes on the purchase of traffic cameras for school zones Monday and heard more about the idea of using volunteers for school security.
Director of Schools Kevin Ward’s update on current and potential safety measures during the board workshop opened with a recommendation against buying the traffic cameras.
On Jan. 7, the school board heard a presentation from a representative of the Contego Group, which specializes in public safety technology, about buying a manned trailer that would record information about speeding vehicles in school zones.
“Due to the resources that we would be pulling from the community, and the problems we would be associated with, I recommend we table that for now,” Ward said. “It’s just not the solution we need at this time.”
Ward’s recommendation was met with unanimous approval.
