Traders village’ request deferred by board

The Elizabethton Board of Zoning Appeals has deferred a decision on whether to allow a “traders village” in Cherokee Industrial Park.

The board decided to delay a decision because property owner Bill Taylor did not attend the meeting to explain his plans.

Director of Planning and Development Jon Hartman said the administrative review for the request would not change the city ordinances concerning traders markets or flea markets in the city. He said the ordinances do not specifically mention whether those were allowed or disallowed.

“This decision would just be to see if they were allowed,” Hartman said. “If we wanted to go as far as to regulate them, we would need to change the ordinance.”
