ERWIN—A no-hitter from Unicoi County pitcher William McInturff put the brakes on a potential non-conference upset throughout Wednesday’s baseball diamond festivites.
The Blue Devils used a six-run first inning to lay the foundation for a 12-0 win over Unaka in five innings during a battle of Carter and Unicoi counties at Baxter Field in Erwin.
“Playing these type of teams like Unicoi will help us once we open up conference play,” Unaka head coach Tee Blevins said. “It showed what we need to work on. We’ll get back to work in the batting cages; it helps to see those type of pitches in a game like this.”
After retiring the side in the top of the first, Unicoi County (4-0) got RBI hits from Austin Green, Taylor Lafever and Hunter Burnett to go ahead 6-0 early.
