Tipton-Haynes State Historic Site in Johnson City will present a basketry workshop Saturday, March 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Using half-inch splints, adults will make a market basket with a handle while children 6 to 12 will make a small, heart-shaped basket. All materials are supplied. Children making a basket need to be with an adult who is also attending the workshop. This is a great workshop for making a special basket for Easter.
Leading the workshop is Penny McLaughlin, the site director who has been teaching the art of making baskets to kids of the Summers Past History Program for many years.
The cost for each basket made is $25 for non-members and $20 for members of the Tipton-Haynes Historical Association. Bring a lunch and spend the day.
Tipton-Haynes is a Tennessee Historical Commission State-Owned Historic Site.
