Three candidates are vying for the Third District Tennessee House Seat, which includes about 11,000 Carter County residents who live in the Hampton and Roan Mountain communities.
The district also includes all of Johnson County and part of Sullivan County.
Challengers for the seat are Republican Timothy Hill, Democrat Leah Kirk, and Green Party candidate Suzanne Parker.
The House seat is currently held by Scottie Campbell of Mountain City, who decided not to seek re-election. Hill lost to Campbell in the 2010 GOP Primary.
“The district is a lot bigger this time. We’ve got more ground to cover. As far as anything different, we’ve just tried to spread the conservative message,” Hill said. Recently, House Speaker Beth Harwell and State Senator Rusty Crowe were in Roan Mountain to campaign with Hill, who hopes to join his brother, Rep. Matthew Hill, in the Tennessee House.
Hill defeated Kevin Parson, Karen Morrell, and Thomas White in August for the Repubican nomination.
