Police said three people were in custody Wednesday and a fourth was still being sought after a New Year’s Day armed robbery in the Central community.

Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes said one shot was fired when four people wearing ski masks entered a home at 110 Hillside Drive at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and demanded money from the two adult occupants.

Mathes said three young children, aged 2, 3 and 7, were present in the home, but thankfully the fired shot went through a window and became lodged in a vehicle parked outside the home.
Mathes said the four made off with a large amount of cash and one of the resident’s wallets.

Barnest and the Johnson City and Elizabethton police departments quicklyresponded to the scene and conducted what Mathes described as an “intensive manhunt,” quickly arresting two suspects nearby.
