The Tennessee Highway Patrol has several checkpoints scheduled in Carter County this week.

The THP will be conducting sobriety checkpoints this week on U.S. Highway 321 and State Route 91. The THP will also be conducting driver license checkpoints this week on State Route 67, State Route 361, State Route 400, U.S. Highway 19E and Siam Road.

According to the THP, impaired driving is a serious crime that kills more than 16.000 people and injures 305,000 others every year in the United States. Troopers will evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Troopers will target those who operate a vehicle while impaired and take corrective actions for other violations observed while ensuring the protection of all motorists.

The THP recognizes that sobriety checkpoints are highly visible and effective tools in the battle against impaired driving.
