Members of the Southeastern Outdoor Press Association visited Carter County Friday morning and toured some of the local historic tourist spots, including the Carter Mansion.

About 20 members of the association were part of the Carter County tour, which stopped at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area, the Carter Mansion, the Covered Bridge, downtown Elizabethton and the Bonnie Kate Theatre and Café, where they were treated to a performance by the Front Porch Storytellers.

The Carter County Tourism Development Council hosted the local tour.

At Sycamore Shoals State Park, Interpretative Ranger Jason Davis gave the group a tour of the fort, and told the story of the first settlers. The tour group was also told about the historical importance of the Fort Watauga.
