Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park to hold League’s Summer Art Show9:01 am | June 21, 2013
The annual Summer Art Show at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park will open Sunday, June 23, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. in the park’s Visitors Center.
This will be the 11th annual Watauga Valley Art League Judged Show along with the 19th Member Show Exhibition. The public is encouraged to come to the reception and talk to the artists, enjoy music, refreshments, and vote for their favorite painting for the popular “People’s Choice” award.
Music will be vocal and guitar music by Mike Matthews and Bill Boyd. These two musicians have played for the Summer Show several times and have come back to entertain because of requests made by the artists.
This year’s judge will be Sharon Squib, who teaches art at University School in Johnson City. She received her BFA from the University of Tennessee, her MFA from the University of Cincinnati, and her MAT from ETSU. Squib lived in New York for 11 years, where she worked as a non-fiction and art book editor for Random House. She is a resident of Jonesborough and is active in the Jonesborough Repertory Theatre where she enjoys performing in plays and musicals.
The Judge’s Awards for the winning paintings and her comments will be presented to the artists at 2:30 p.m. in the Visitors Center Auditorium. Most of the art of more than 40 participating member artists from Watauga Valley Art League will also be for sale at the reception and until the show closes at 4 p.m. on July 28. The free exhibition will be on display during park hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and Sunday from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
