Sullivan South reconfigures outlook for 1-A/AA golf

Hampton head coach Wayne Ellis knows with his squad being one of the smallest schools in the region to have golf, it is David vs. Goliath every time his team steps on the course.

This season though, being an underdog takes on even bigger relevance with Sullivan South stepping down into the District 1-A/AA golf conference.

The Rebels and Lady Rebels have both been in the state tournament within the last three years in Class AAA, and with the enrollment now being low enough to where they can make that drop to Class AA, South becomes the favorite to win the district golf championship in boys and girls.

Hampton’s girls were favored to win the title last year, but the Elizabethton Lady Cyclones played their best golf of the year that day at Elizabethton Golf Course and won the district tournament championship.
