Sullivan County could close Bluff City library8:49 am | December 26, 2012
BLUFF CITY, Tenn. (AP) — Bluff City is in danger of losing its library.
Sullivan County Library Director Theresa McMahan recently told city officials the county is looking at ways to cut costs and closing the library is one of the options.
The Bristol Herald Courier reports McMahan said county officials want the city to help pay for the branch because it is within city limits.
The county spends $107,000 a year to operate the library, which has two employees. It offers books, kids’ activities and computers to the public.
Even if the library is not closed, McMahan said the state could confiscate computers and other equipment that it purchased for the library if the locals cut funding.
Bluff City Manager Judy Dulaney says city has its own budget problems.
