Students to put best feet forward to help create veterinary clinic

The Carter County School System’s Carter Cares After School Program is sponsoring a walk-a-thon to help in the creation of a low-cost veterinary clinic.

Students in the Carter Cares after-school program will be participating in the animal walk-a-thon this Saturday at Sycamore Shoals State Park.

The fourth annual walk-a-thon, this year supporting the East Tennessee Spay and Neuter and Paws of Hope clinic, will be held on Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park.

Contests will be held for best dressed dog, cutest dog, owner/dog look-alike contest and Animal Idol for the most talented pet. Door prizes will be available for human and dog/cat participants.

The walk-a-thon is a service learning project for the Carter Cares After School Program, and is being organized by students. Carter Cares is open to students in grades K-8, and students from Happy Valley Middle School, Central Elementary, Range Elementary, Valley Forge Elementary, Keenburg Elementary, Hunter Elementary, Unaka Elementary, Cloudland Elementary, Hampton Elementary and Little Milligan Elementary are participating in the walk-a-thon.
