Students mark 12-12-12 with food collection

West Side Elementary students marked the last repetitive date of the century – 12-12-12 – with a food drive and an essay contest in which they pondered what Christmas 2112 will be like.

“The big predictions for the future were there would be more technology like hover cars and robotic Santas,” said West Side teacher Linda Jones, who helped organize the drive and contest.

Students collected 1,911 canned food items for the food pantry at First Christian Church

Abby Harrison, Norman Xie and Mia Garvey were the essay winners
at West Side Elementary

in Elizabethton.
