Students hear call to step it up over summer months

Summertime is almost upon us, and for some of Carter County’s students, the end of organized sports and gym class could lead to a lot of time spent indoors … and inert.

But the Carter County Health Department wants these students to know there are several ways to stay physically active outside of school.

“We’re letting them see that there’s more activity out there than just the mainstream sports,” said health educator Tim Bailey. “We also want to let them know that you don’t have to be athletic to be physically active.”

On Wednesday, Health Department employees showed Happy Valley High School students what some of those activities entailed during a health fair.

The fair followed a similar event that was held at HVHS on March 21. That event featured 15 vendors from throughout the region, each dealing with a separate area of health or public safety.
