In Game 1 Tuesday night at Joe O’Brien Field, Johnson City’s Richy Pedroza is safe at first base on a pickoff attempt to Bryan Harr.

That was perfectly acceptable for Johnson City. The Cardinals left Joe O’Brien Field with a doubleheader twosome Tuesday, taking wins of 4-2 and 4-1 to send Elizabethton to the loss column for the ninth and 10th time, respectively, in its last 12 games.

“We’re self-destructing one inning and we’re not hitting,” said Elizabethton manager Ray Smith. “We have a chance to make the play and we fail the play — and when you’re not hitting those things, the problems are just compounding.”

Doldrums at the plate plagued game one as a four-run second inning was enough to carry the Cards.
