Leonard Rosco Winters, 67, 120 Flora Dugger Road, Elizabethton, was indicted on charges of aggravated assault, false imprisonment and aggravated rape.

Police reports from the incident allege that Winters threatened to kill the woman in his home on the afternoon of Dec. 20, 2012.

When she fled, police said he chased her out of the home, knocked her down in the yard and began hitting her in the face with his fists.

The woman told police that Winters choked her to the point that she feared she would die, then dragged her by her hair back into his home.

Police reports said he ordered her to go into a bedroom and remove her pants and underwear, and threatened to kill her with a knife if she did not comply.

The reports said Winters then pushed the woman onto the edge of the bed and began raping her, ignoring her pleas for him to stop.

The woman told police Winters then made her sit on a couch and told her she could not leave nor talk on the phone and told her not to discuss the incident with anyone.

Two days later, when Winters was out of the residence, the woman said she contacted her sister to help her leave.

The report states Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes and Investigator Larry Vaughn searched the home and found evidence consistent with the alleged offense.

The woman was examined by a Johnson City Medical Center nurse, who told police she found injuries that appeared to be related to rape.

After his arrest on Dec. 26, Winters’ bond was set at $65,000. He is scheduled to appear in Carter County Criminal Court on the next available date.
