Stacy Street took the official step from one side of the bench to the other Thursday, being sworn in as 1st District Criminal Court judge.
Before a who’s who of the Northeast Tennessee judicial system, Street thanked gathered attorneys, judges and, most of all, his family, who he said supported him throughout his career and made his judicial appointment possible.
“I don’t think I have enough time to thank everyone, but I would like to mention the people who sacrificed a lot for me to be here,” Street said after being sworn in by the district’s other criminal court judge, Robert Cupp, and donning his new robes.
He specifically named his family, wife Susan and their two children, all of the judges from the district and Jim Bowman, an attorney with whom he often served with as co-council and called “a mentor and a best friend.”
Street also gave credit to the three other men who have served as criminal court judges in the First District while he was an acting attorney.
