New LED lights adorning the Fraser fir illuminated Elizabethton’s night sky when the community Christmas tree was lit Tuesday night for the 24th year to officially kick off the holiday season in Carter County.
Spectators began arriving around 5 p.m. to enjoy hot apple cider and hot chocolate from Bonnie Kate Cafe and the Friends of Sycamore Shoals. Pre-lighting entertainment was provided by Miss Watauga Valley Brittany Kyte, the Elizabethton High School Choral Group and a hand-bell choir from Pine Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Nursing Home.
EHS Choral Group Director Debbie Gouge was recognized for her continued participation in the tree lighting.
