UPDATE: Sheriff’s department identifies man killed in Elk Mills shooting

9:27 pm | July 17, 2013

Carter County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Mike Little said 42-year-old Kenneth Jeff Dugger died after being shot Wednesday night at an Elk Mills convenience store.

Little said the shooting occurred during a “domestic situation,” but said officers are still trying to officially determine the cause of the confrontation near the fuel pumps at the Elk Mills General Store on U.S. Route 321.

Little declined to name the shooter, but said he fired from close range, hitting Dugger in the chest.

He was transported by ambulance to Sycamore Shoals Hospital, but Little wasn’t certain if Dugger died while en routeor if he succumbed to his injuries after arriving at the medical facility.
