Shocking costs under discussion at committee meeting10:00 am | October 15, 2013
The most recent task the Carter County Budget Committee has been asked to complete is a shocker.
County Commissioner and Health and Welfare Committee Chairperson Jo Ann Blankenship said each commissioner should have received a letter from the Carter County Election Commission urging them to install Automated External Defibrillators — or AEDs — in public facilities.
Last Monday, the Health and Welfare Committee unanimously approved installing one AED in the Carter County Courthouse and another in the Courthouse Annex.
At the budget committee’s monthly meeting Monday night, Blankenship said it is the responsibility of the budget committee members to figure out how to pay for the project.
“There are two of them, so we are looking at about $4,000,” said Ingrid Deloach, county finance director.
Certain features included in the wall-mounted AEDs, which Blankenship said are made by ZOLL, reduce the amount of decision-making required while someone may be attempting to save a life.
