Sheriff: Deputy, suspect recovering after incident

A Carter County deputy and the suspect authorities say he shot are recovering from injuries they sustained Tuesday afternoon.

Sheriff Chris Mathes identified the deputy as Ross Frizzell. Mathes had declined to name the officer on Tuesday.

Frizzell had been attempting to serve several misdemeanor and felony arrest warrants on Tuesday when he learned the suspect, Keith Brummitt, was at the Dollar General Store on the Milligan Highway.

Mathes said Frizzell and another officer saw Brummitt, but he began to run. The officers followed him on foot and lost sight of him as he went into the tree line off Okolona Road.
