Sheriff: Autopsy tells different story in boy’s death

Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes said Saturday that an autopsy of the 4-year-old boy who died at a Lovers Lane home on Tuesday revealed evidence that discredited the initial story told by the boys who were with him when he died.

Mathes said the medical examination of the body found that a BB pellet had penetrated Coty Lynn Stines skull, which did not match the story told by the 10- and 13-year-old boys who were with Stines at the 340 Lovers Lane home when he died.

The sheriff said the case is ongoing, and said his investigators are considering criminal charges.
