Shelter bid wins OK from committee

By

The Carter County Budget Committee has approved a bid to build a new local animal shelter for $499,245.

County Mayor Leon Humphrey said Landmark Corp. submitted not only the lowest bid, but the quickest completion time to build the animal shelter.

The animal shelter advisory committee had received five eligible bids, which were opened on Sept. 27. To award the project to Landmark Corp., both the Elizabethton City Council and Carter County Commission must approve the bid.

The budget committee’s approval on Monday allows the bid to be considered on Monday, Oct. 15, by the county commission. City council meets on Thursday, Oct. 11.
