Schools budget wins final OK

The Carter County Board of Education approved the system’s 2013-2014 budget during Thursday afternoon’s school board meeting.

For the second time.

The system had developed its balanced $38,995,372 budget earlier in the spring and submitted it to the county commission for approval. However, a mayoral veto of the budget and the need for the commission to vote on the county’s budget a second time led the system to approve its budget after the school year had already started.

Finance Director Ingrid Deloach told the school board that because the county commission had approved the budget, it was “their turn.”

The board unanimously approved the general fund, food service and Head Start budget.
