Seniors, take note: the Senior and Law Enforcement Together Council has set the date for this year’s annual Health and Safety Fair.

The fair will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 24, inside the Truman Clark Annex of the Carter County Health Department.
SALT Council President Karen Mansfield said that, for the past six years, the fair has helped educate the area’s seniors on how to better take care of themselves.

“We’re trying to find everything that seniors need in order to be healthy and safe,” Mansfield said. “There’s going to be lots of health testing, information, and gifts. There is no charge, and everyone is welcome.”

Mansfield started the health fair in the fall of 2008, just a few months after she assumed duties as the council’s president in June of 2008.

Since that time, the fair has expanded to include representation from local health care providers, such as Mountain States Health Alliance, Franklin Health Center, and Walgreen’s; to government and law enforcement offices, like the Elizabethton Police Department, Carter County Sheriff’s Department, and the Elizabethton/Carter County Emergency Management Agency.
